<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "In your time of need, come before My throne, and I will give you mercy and grace".

He promises me:
  "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find help in time of need". (Heb, 4:16)

My response to the word:
  God sits upon His throne in heaven. His throne is a throne of grace. He invites me to come boldly (with great confidence) before His throne so that I will find His mercy and grace which will help me in my times of need. My confidence in prayer comes from this realization: "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us".

My prayer:
  Lord, thank you for the confidence your Word imparts to me. When I pray to you I know you are hearing me, and I know you will grant my petitions.

Today's scriptures:
 "Prayers offered by those who have God's approval are effective". (James 5:16 GW) "God lives in those who declare that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God". (1 John 4:15 GW) "Therefore practice self-control, and keep your minds clear so that you can pray". (1 Peter 4:7 GW)

Quote for today:
Much of our praying is like the boy who rings the door bell, but then runs away before the door is opened. (Unknown)

On this day:
On 16th October 1812, Henry Martyn, Anglican missionary to India and Persia, died. Born in Truro, Cornwall and educated at Cambridge, he took a chaplaincy with the East India Company in Bengal in 1806. On doctor's advice he took a sea journey to Persia where he became ill. During his short life of 31 years, he translated the New Testament into Hindustani, later into Arabic and Persian. He died at sea while returning to England and was buried at Tokat, Turkey.
