<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "I am your light and your salvation".

He promises me:
  "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?". (Ps. 27:1)

My response to the word:
  Because God is my light and my salvation, I never need to fear anyone or anything. His perfect love casts out all fear in my life. The Apostle John wrote, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has torment. He who fears in not made perfect in love".

My prayer:
  Lord, with your help I will walk in your light and love throughout this day. Because I know you I have nothing to fear. Thank you, Father.

Today's scriptures:
 "Although I've fallen, I will get up. Although I sit in the dark, the Lord is my light". (Mic. 7:8 GW) "Jesus said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will have a life filled with light and will never live in the dark". (John 8:12 GW) "No fear exists where love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear, because fear involves punishment. The person who lives in fear doesn't have perfect love". (1 John 4:18 GW)

Quote for today:
Human nature's way of salvation is "Do, do, do". But God's way is "Done, done; it is all done". You have but to rely by faith on the atonement which Christ accomplished on the cross. (Charles Spurgeon)

On this day:
On 10th May 1816, John Charles Ryle, leader of Evangelicals within the Church of England, was born in Cheshire. Toward the end of his college studies at age 22, he experienced an evangelical conversion. After financial reverses he became a clergyman, and served in a poorly paid curacy. In 1844 he moved to East Anglia, and his ministry afforded deeper study and writing, as well as personal ministry. In 1856, at age 40, he began a seven volume Expository Thoughts on the Gospels, which were completed in 1873. He became Bishop of Liverpool and died in Lowestoft in 1900.
