<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "Confess your sins, and I will forgive you".

He promises me:
  "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". (1 John 1:9)

My response to the word:
  What a wonderful promise this is. God wants me to confess my sins to Him because He knows that unconfessed sin will fester in my life, causing increasing problems, pain, and turmoil. My Father's faithfulness to me stems from His great love for me. How thankful I am that He has cleansed me from all unrighteousness. God's forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred in my life. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness. It restores me to life.

My prayer:
  Lord, I know you are faithful to me, and I thank you for your promise that you will forgive me when I confess my sins to you. I confess the following sins to you; ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… Thank you for forgiving and cleansing me.

Today's scriptures:
 "I made my sins known to you, and I did not cover up my guilt. I decided to confess them to you, O Lord. Then you forgave all my sins". (Ps. 32:5 GW) "So admit your sins to each other, and pray for each other so that you may be healed". (James 5:16 GW) "God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, He forgives them and cleanses us from everything we've done wrong". (1 John 1:9 GW)

Quote for today:
He who cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself. (George Herbert)

On this day:
On 3rd May 1675, a Massachusetts law came into effect requiring church doors to be locked during services. Officials enacted the law because too many people were leaving before sermons were over.
On 3rd May 1878, William Whiting, 53, Anglican poet and music instructor, died. He is known to have written only one hymn during his life, but its popularity has endured: "Eternal Father, Strong to Save."
